Website cost in Palmerston North

Budget for the build, the monthly running costs and the features your customers actually need. Here is how to compare a website quote for your Manawatū business.

Start with the whole cost

What should you budget for a business website?

A website price is easier to understand when you separate the one-off design and build from the ongoing hosting plan. At FernByte, Starter begins at NZD $499 setup plus NZD $49 per month. The right package depends on your page count, content and features; a headline price alone does not tell you whether it fits your business.

For a Palmerston North trades business, the priority might be clear service pages, photos of completed work and a simple enquiry form. An advisory business may need a larger service structure and an insights library. A shop needs product information, payments and shipping settings. Agree on those needs before comparing quotes.

This guide uses FernByte's published starting prices, not an estimate of what every local designer charges. All amounts are in New Zealand dollars. We confirm your scope and final price in writing before work begins.

The first-year amounts are budgeting examples, not a requirement to prepay twelve months. Domains, substantial content creation, third-party subscriptions and additional features are excluded. Custom requirements and changes to scope are quoted separately. See the full website package inclusions and service terms.

Know what you are buying

What is included, and what can add to the price?

The agreed website build includes mobile-friendly design, the package's page or initial product allowance, and its design-revision rounds. Our packages include SEO foundations and a clear way for customers to contact you. The monthly plan covers hosting, security and the included small updates. Compare the actual deliverables with your requirements before choosing a package.

Domain and business email

Your domain is the address customers type to find you. Check its registration and renewal cost separately. Business email is another service: confirm whether you need new mailboxes or help moving existing ones. Neither should be assumed to be included in the website setup price.

Copy and photography

A build needs accurate service descriptions, contact details, images you have permission to use and any approved client feedback. Supplying those early helps keep the project focused. Substantial copywriting, photography and content preparation need a separate scope and quote.

Bookings, payments and integrations

A form that sends a booking request is different from a live calendar that reserves appointments. Likewise, selling products can involve stock, delivery rules and external payment-provider charges. List the exact workflow you need so the quote covers the right features and any recurring third-party costs.

Changes after launch

Included monthly updates cover small text and image changes. Unused updates do not accumulate. New pages, additional features and substantial redesigns are quoted separately, so ask what an update includes before choosing an ongoing plan.

Choose a useful scope

How to keep the project within your budget

Start with the actions you want visitors to take: call, request a quote, ask for a booking or buy a product. Then identify the pages and features needed to support those actions. Separate what is essential for launch from what could be added later. This is more useful than paying for features your customers will not use.

If you already have a website, share its address and explain what needs to improve. A redesign should account for existing useful content, search URLs and any forms or integrations you need to retain. Moving a site is not automatically cheaper than building a new one; the work depends on what can be reused and what needs to change.

See our Bevan Gray Advisory website case study for an advisory business and our Shadz Automotive case study for a Palmerston North workshop. These show real project scope; they are not examples of a promised package price or guaranteed search results.

Before accepting a quote

Check ownership, support and the payment schedule

Ask who will control the domain, what you will own after payment, what happens if you change hosting providers and which subscriptions you will need to keep. With FernByte, custom code and completed website work created for your project are yours after full payment. Hosting cancellation includes a handover. Third-party licensed assets and paid subscriptions are excluded unless transferable.

Website projects normally use a minimum 20% deposit, with the remaining 80% due on completion, unless another schedule is agreed in writing. Monthly hosting is a separate subscription. The build timeline also depends on receiving the content, approvals and access needed for the agreed work.

  • Confirm the pages, features and revision rounds.
  • List the setup price and every ongoing charge.
  • Agree who supplies the copy and images.
  • Confirm handover, ownership and ongoing support.
  • Read the written quote and FernByte service terms together.
